Looking at old pictures…

You might know who someone is on an old photo, but you might wonder who took that picture.

The file name is Mom downtown in Gan 1946.jpeg…

So that’s someone’s mother who had her photo taken in downtown Gananoque in 1946.

But who was that relative visiting from Massachusetts? We might never know.

However…

Therese Pearl Sherboneau is 21 on that photo. She was the daughter of Louis Peter Sherbonneau and Elizabeth Dodds. Therese was born on November 9th, 1925.

Therese had nine these siblings:

Louis Wilfred (Bill) Sherboneau / Charbonneau 1920–1999

Joseph Frederick Sherboneau 1921–1999

Josephine Dorothy Sherboneau 1924–2002

John Edward Sherboneau 1927–2000

Margaret Patricia Sherboneau 1928–2018

Robert (Buster) /Donald Regan Sherboneau 1929–2021

Donald Lawrence Sherboneau 1932–2014

Francis Anthony Sherboneau 1934–1934

Louis Harold Sherboneau 1941–1994

Little did Therese knew in 1946 that she was a direct descendant of Olivier Charbonneau.

Olivier Charbonneau immigrated from France in 1659. and settled in Pointe-aux-Trembles. He quickly build the first water mill in the region and then carried on his trade of miller. Of his five children two sons, Jean and Joseph, would leave many descendants one of which was Therese Pearl.

Fast forward…

Well back a little in the Township of Seneca in the County of Haldimand in 1861.

To be continued…

I got mail – May 2023

My virtual friend Joe is honoring La Famiglia for 2023. Joe wrote…

My intention was for the 2022 calendar to be my last. However, with the recent passing of my mom it was obvious that I needed to do at least one more calendar. And yes, she appears more than a few times.

May –

Top left, my grandfather, Ralph Mocciolo (1898-1993) peers into an allied trench in France, Alsace-Lorraine, in 1917. He survived a gas attack there during fighting.

Top right, a surprise meeting of brothers in Italy during WWII, in Sicily we believe, that is Joe Spina (1925-1975) on left, Dorothea’s uncle, and Jim Spina on right.

Bottom left, my dad, Nick Palladino (1931-2014) in Korea.

Bottom right, Jim Spina again, with unknown friends,  in Italy.
